Filming permits
Applying to occupy a public space (street, park, or municipal building) for filming purposes is a three-step process (see details below):
1. Open an online production file
2. Submit permit applications
3. Inform neighbouring residents, businesses, and organizations

MFTC application review fee

As of January 2026: $38 per application review, regardless of the number of filming days.

This fee applies from the moment an application is reviewed by the MFTC, even if the production is subsequently cancelled or modified (dates, locations, etc.).

This fee does not apply to amateur productions or productions carried out by a non-profit corporation.
Step 2 : Submit permit applications
Processing times may vary during peak season (May to October). Early submission is recommended.
You must submit a permit application for each public location you plan to occupy during filming: roadway (street, alley, sidewalk), park or public square, municipal building.
Please follow the steps below.
01. Account creation
Create a citizen account and an organizational account on montreal.ca.
02. Sidewalk and street occupation
Download the application form to occupy a street or sidewalk and submit it by email to the liaison officer designated by the MFTC. (French Only)
03. Park and building occupation
Download the application form to occupy a park or a municipal building and submit it by email to the liaison officer designated by the MFTC. (French Only)
If you plan to occupy public property (street, sidewalk, street parking spaces), you must provide a site layout plan.
In the event of a street closure or additional requirements, you must provide a traffic control plan prepared by an engineer.
